Understanding Your
Human Design Bodygraph
(part 1)
The Bodygraph can be overwhelming at first glance, but it can be broken down into digestible elements, all holding another layer of awareness about ourselves.
Here is a quick and dirty breakdown to help you start understanding the Bodygraph in Human Design

Anatomy of a Bodygraph
Centers (geometric shapes)
Channels (lines connecting Centers)
Gates (numbers within Centers)
Planetary Placements (listed to right and left of Bodygraph)
Variables (arrows)
The 9 Centers in Human Design - a quick understanding
Head: inspiration, imagination, questions, confusion, doubt
Ajna: understanding, data processing, awareness, answers, theories
Throat: communication, transformation, manifestation (bringing things into existence)
G / Identity: direction, love, identity, higher self
Ego / Heart: willpower, self worth, motivation
Spleen: intuition, survival instinct, spontaneity
Solar Plexus: emotional awareness, feelings, sensitivity
Sacral: life-force energy, response, desires
Root: progress, adrenaline, stress
Definition in a Bodygraph
It is important to note that half of the Bodygraph is imprinted (or “defined”) at birth while the other half is imprinted approximately 88 days before we are born. These are known as our conscious/personality/mind and unconscious/design/body traits.
Definition (when a gate, channel, or center is colored in) occurs during these two snapshots in time and correlate to where the planets were located in the sky at those exact moments. [swipe for example of definition]
Consciously defined elements in our Bodygraph are those we are likely aware of (listed on the right side of the Bodygraph), while the unconscious definition (listed on the left side of the Bodygraph) may be more easily identified by others around us.
NOTE: This is why your exact birth time is so important! Faster moving planets (like the moon) can travel through multiple gates in the same day, potentially shifting your overall design.
Definition in Human Design Centers
Each Center carries a different energetic stamp that presents differently depending on whether you have that Center defined or not.
If you have a defined Center* you experience this energy consistently.
If you have an undefined or open Center, you experience the energy inconsistently. You are here to learn from and play with this energy (sampling it through others who you interact with or through transits).
